To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} X6553 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KW.11.7.34. Bentley Car to be run under Colonial Conditions. Referring to your telephone conversation of this morning. We have been into the matter and would recommend the following :- (1) Road Springs. These should be of standard poundage with initial camber increased 1". This will necessitate a new exhaust tail pipe and a new rear end to the expansion box. At present the pipe goes under the axle and therefore there is just sufficient clearance on maximum rebound. When the axle position is altered 1" relative to the frame the tail pipe will have to be dropped by a similar amount. The depth of rubber buffer between the axle and the frame at both front and rear should also be increased by 1". Both the front and rear wings will have to be lowered the equivalent of 1". (2) Wheels. We recommend that the car should be raised ¾" on the wheels. This will increase the Ground clearance between the unsprung portions of the chassis and the road by .5". The increase can be made by fitting 5¼" tyres on 18" rims. Altering the wheels will necessitate - (a) Clearance being allowed for the larger tyre on the wheels carriers and wings. (b) A slightly reduced steering lock. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
