I do not agree with OY, who contends that because the amplitude of the vibration of the sprung mass of a car is small the mode of vibration will be unaffected by the position of the elastic supports.

Is not the amplitude of a "key" of a xylophone small and does not the mode of vibration depend entirely on the position of the supports? In fact, the correct positioning of the supports is necessary to obtain any sustained note.
