Upon draining the oil from the spring housings prior to removing the original 1200 lbs. springs, we observed that the oil from the o/s housing was quite clean and the oil drained from the n/s housing was very discoloured and dirty. About 1/2 a glass full of water had found its way into the n/s housing apart from a certain amount of grit.

We removed the cross steering tubes and fitted the 4 stronger type ( G.85490) springs to the joints which you sent to us per your Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SBI8/HR.1.9.37 .

We obtained 3 1/2 lbs. friction on each joint. We then tested the car and found the steering to be quite good.

The owner called at our Showrooms a few days ago and said that he was very pleased with the results obtained.

We shall be very interested to learn from you what effect too small front buffer clearances which cause the wheels to splay out at the bottom can have upon the steering of a Phantom III chassis.

Sr/VA.
