Successful trial of valve oil seal washers and a proposal for wider application and further investigation.

We have recently had a clear cut proof of the value of oil sealing the top valve spring washers in accordance with the scheme LCP.846. This scheme was originated and first tried by Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and our confirmation has been on 29.G.VI unit. After 5 mins. idling and then opening up, the exhaust was blue with oil smoke, following which the oil seal washers were fitted and gave an absolute cure without trace of oil in the exhaust. Similar washers are fitted to 26.G.VI, 8.B.V (15,000 miles) and 29.G.VI, and we should like every B.III and Wraith III chassis that comes into the shop for any reason, equipped with these washers in order to obtain experience as to whether the valve stems suffer by the fact of sealing off the oil that hitherto gave them lubrication.
