OIL SEAL FOR VALVE SPRING TOP WASHER. Please receive herewith :- E.CD.846 Modified Valve Spring Washer with Oil Seal - Wraith III and Bentley III. This design is a development of the scheme suggested and tried out by Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} on a Wraith III engine with a view to preventing oil from rockers flowing past the split in the retaining wedges of the valve spring top washers and then down the valve guides, causing the engine to smoke when starting up after a short stop. It is proposed to fit these washers to the Bentley III engine for the car, which will shortly be leaving for test in France. Will you please detail and instruct accordingly.
