HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} )FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ) C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X4024 R2/M8.5.31. FUTURE ENGINES (CAR & AERO) INCLUDING J.3. P.V. & P.3. For first class luxury cars we need more than 6 cyls. which cannot be considered prohibitive on the ground of cost because there are plenty of lower priced cars with 8 and 12 cyls. It is necessary to avoid depending entirely upon soft rubber vibration insulation. Also it is absolutely necessary to get a stable front without excessive vibrations. The ideal engine is of 12. cyls. which we are trying first on the Phantom. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
