ALFRED HERBERT LTD., COVENTRY. Sheet No. -2- To Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Date Oct.4, 1933. ------------------------ The final operation for completely silent gears is one of lapping after hardening. For this operation Fellows have produced the Recess Type Gear Lapping Machine in which the work drives three friction-braked laps and is at the same time giving an axial reciprocating motion. This machine is described on the attached leaflet. So far only one of these machines has arrived in this country and this is being got ready for installation in the Austin Works. At the moment the Austin Co. are engaged in making the laps and workholding fixtures and we are quite sure that they would willingly give permission for you to see it when they are ready. Mr. Seibel, the special Fellows' representative in this country, is going to Sweden for about one week but as soon as he returns he would be very pleased to visit your Works to go more fully into detail and give you any information you may desire. Yours faithfully, For ALFRED HERBERT LTD. S.N. Elstub | ||
