Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter October 2nd asking for particulars of the latest Fellows equipment for producing quiet helical gears.

We take it you are already aware of the standard Fellows machine for shaping helical and double helical teeth, known as the Nos. 70 and 715A machines. These are fully described in the booklet "A new development in gear cutting". Machines of this type are in use at the Works of Alvis, Austin, Morris, Wolseley, Rover, Singer and Ford, in every case on the cutting of double helical gears and in most cases 40° helix angle.

In addition to this machine there is a new development for simultaneously cutting both halves of double helical gears in one setting of the work; this is known as the Herringbone machine, but we have no catalogue matter as yet available. Two of these machines have recently been ordered by the Wolseley Company and they are at the moment in our Works being got ready for test. If you would like to see them in operation we can arrange to let you know when they will be running.

The above machines are for cutting teeth. Most of the users mentioned above are in addition burnishing the teeth after cutting and before hardening. For this they use the Fellows Gear Burnisher which is described in the attached booklet.
