SECRET Headquarters, Central Landing Establishment, Royal Air Force, Ringway, Nr. Manchester. Ref:- CLS/S.1406/2/S. Your Ref:- Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}2/ML. 27th January 1941. Launching Winch. Dear Mr Robotham, Thank you for your letter. 2. It is unfortunate for the winch that you have got urgent work, and the winch could have been nearly done if we had given the order quicker. But I think that you have so much knowledge of the problem already, that it will still be quicker for you to go on with it if you will. 3. I enclose some points on the Darby Clubs winch. They are written by the training school who are using it. 4. A man interested in the Salerni torque convertor has suggested it for this purpose, but it is only in the experimental stage though there are one or two tool room models about. If you want to know about it, I will tell him to write to you, and I expect you will know if it is likely to be as good as the Leyland (?) torque convertor you mentioned. Yours sincerely Mungo Buxton W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. [illegible signature] | ||
