re Trials Phantom 103 MC.

With reference to your memo BJ15/DN.7.9.25 concerning the balance of the wheels of the above car, this matter was dealt with at "N" during my absence on holiday. I have looked up the records, however, and I find that the wheel balance was checked and considered quite passable at that time.

I would inform you that the special instructions for the fine balancing of wheels, i.e. "To within 4 ozs.", were not issued to us by "W" until August 28th. The car was dealt with by us on August 10th. The balance of the wheels was checked and our people informed me that same were quite within the limits at that time.

For your information I would add that until recent instructions have come through we should have had no hesitation in passing a wheel for balance within 8 ozs., and, furthermore, we have not hitherto known of any method of balancing straight sided wheels, therefore in previous cases of steering wobble we have simply picked out the best balanced two wheels of a set and placed them on the front.

We are, of course, now quite au fait with the method of balancing wheels in accordance with the latest practices, and in all future cases this will automatically be dealt with.
