c. Des-by-New-Plt. Dir. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/OWH. E/JMH. E.4/HP.18.12.36. Bentley Crankshaft and Big-end Bearings. Further to memo E.4/HP.10.12.36, we have now checked over the scheme for the high pressure oil filter LeC.4692, and we find this is completely uptodate and requires no modification for application to the present Bentley engine. In conjunction with this scheme some changes in the riding control are required as indicated on LeC.4714 whereby the riding control is now carried entirely on the chassis frame without reference to the engine. With regard to the larger oil pump which was standardised some time ago to drawing LeC.4288, we query the advisability of using the 22º Helix angle gears as these suffer from poor delivery at slow speeds, and are apt not to self-prime it is understood when the sump is re-filled after emptying. We should like to know if the lubrication of the valve rocker gear is considered satisfactory over the range of operation of the engine using the blow-off oil pressure, and whether any tests have been made with the two pressure relief valve scheme to LeC.4412. We are not anxious to add any further complication but this point has been criticised in the past. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
