Requirement for new crankshaft main bearing cap forgings and a proposal to retain steel caps.

New crankshaft main bearing cap forgings will be required to suit the larger diameter bearings, and new dies should be ordered.

It is proposed to retain the steel caps because of the necessity of preventing closing up of the bearing clearances when cold with the small clearance normally employed on car engines.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to find out if it is considered impracticable to remove the flywheels without upsetting balance.
