| (Sheet 3) date at which this improvement can be brought in. New crankshaft main bearing cap forgings will be required to suit the larger diameter bearings, and new dies should be ordered. It is proposed to retain the steel caps because of the necessity of preventing closing up of the bearing clearances when cold with the small clearance normally employed on car engines.
