O.H.C. Car Single Cylinder Unit.

We send you herewith LeC 4854 (2 sheets) of the Crankcase and general scheme of an O.H.C. car single cylinder unit. This is to be a completely new unit and will be used primarily for testing a three-valve ramp type cylinder head, particulars of two alternative types of which will follow.

The same bottom half crankcase pattern as was used for the Bentley and Exe single cylinder units is to be used with some additional facings, but all existing facings must be retained.

The design of the drive and motoring ends of the unit is similar to that of the Exe unit, and in most cases the same patterns can be used.

As it will be necessary to change the cylinder head studs when the alternative cylinder head is fitted these have been provided with inserts as it is difficult to withdraw and replace studs in the aluminium.

A dry liner construction is used for the cylinder, and the interference fit between the liner and the block, as well as the material of the liner is to be determined experimentally.

Particulars of the balance weight, piston and connecting rod, together with particulars of a slight modification to the ignition indicator are to follow.

We should be pleased if you would send prints of these scheme to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ryce. in addition to the usual prints.

Att: LeC.4854 (2 Sheets).
