C O P Y. COPY. To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copt to J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} I quite agree with you that Dunlop arrangement of wood wheel is of no use as at present designed. We must avoid a big overhang and we must get the intersection correct, not exceeding the 1¼. The arrangement you got for the fixed wood wheel (for Michelin rims) is nearly right. Will Mr Johnson say if any of these are wanted. If so, we will perfect the design. F.H.R. P.S. I think the depth of flange is sufficient to make a really sound job. The bolt is so near the top of the flanges, one would expect that the wood work would not permit of such a powerful bolt being really tightened. As the cover keeping the oil in the bearing is really only an oil retaining device, it might be of quite a short amount of thread, so that the wheel appears as if it can be made to go on at least another ¾". We will, however, put it on further than this if there is any possible way of doing so. Handwritten text: X/35- | ||
