S/W To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}E.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Springs. addressed to By only Referring to my recent memo, regarding springing and my remarks when at Derby last week I went on Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s car to Nottingham and I rode both in the front and the back. I came to the conclusion very quickly that the springing was definitely poor as compared with my car yet both have low rating springs. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} I remember, said that his car was greatly improved when loaded up. This confirms my impression that one of the reasons why my car is so good is because it is over-loaded as compared with what it was sprung for, and I am coming to the conclusion that this has been one of our troubles for some time. Lord Herbert was telling me to-day that the springing of his car, when he was away on holiday in Scotland, was very good when the car was fully loaded. On my car when abroad the springing was noticeably not so good even when the petrol tank began to get empty. I feel that in the past our general policy has been too much towards springing for maximum load rather than for average load which is usually far below maximum. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
