COPY. To BJ. from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/EM12.11.24. Re Thermostat on 40/50 HP. You will recollect that at the last Derby Conference when we were discussing overheating troubles, I mentioned that a spanish customer had told me that his overheating troubles had disappeared when he removed his thermostatic control valve and that they re-appeared when he fitted it back. W. did not (if I remember correctly) appear to attach much importance to this, but I think it is worthy of mention, that within the last week, we have received two orders for 40/50 h.p. chassis from overseas clients who particularly specify that they do not want the thermostatic control and mention that the reason for it being required is on account of overheating troubles. I would suggest that if W. have not already done so, arrangements be made for them to carry out a definite test with and without the thermostat under exactly similar conditions - and as winter is now with us, it would presumably have to be done on the test bench.
