X 766 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. Copies to... BJ [struck through] BJ5/H14.11.24. 40/50 H.P. OVERHEATING. I attach a copy of Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/BM12.11.24. I know that you are very full up with experimental work at present, but when you are considering overheating, I think you would like to make a careful practical test with and without a thermostat. It does seem strange that three customers in three different parts of the world should have written making this suggestion. Also, it would seem that our troubles with over-heating have increased a good deal during the last few years since thermostats have been introduced. I presume that possibly sometimes theoretically a certain result ought not to be produced, but practically, for some unknown reason, it is produced, although it is difficult to know the exact reason.
