We believe that you would welcome the use of the complete Phantom rear silencer as you have all tools etc. for it. If this is so we suggest that since the tubular cross members allow of it being used it should be fitted temporarily to one of the SS.{S. Smith} cars to see if it is an improvement from a silencing point of view. We think this would be desirable before we made a scheme of it on the car as it may be found that the exhaust trouble is further forward.

For this purpose it is desirable that the front portion of the exhaust system should be made as R.{Sir Henry Royce} last wished, nemaly N.sch. 2823. We could use existing Phantom sliding joint for purposes of the experiment, or if the pipe is a different dia. one of those on N.sch. 2824 could be adapted to the Phantom silencer.

Since writing this I have had a telegram read to me over the Phone which specifies the exhaust system to be used. The above is only intended experimentally.
