PROGRAMME OF TEST BED WORK. Further to memo. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Cwd'.1/MH.{M. Huckerby}11.1.39. No.30. Bed. B.80 No.1 Unit. (1) Continue induction system and carburetter development. (2) Check the power loss to exhaust system using a single system and a duplex exhaust systems. (3) Further tests on crankshaft damper (a) At speed where max. oscillations occur, check amplitude at full load, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and light load. (b) Include some form of damping and check its effect. (c) Try sufficient spring loadings to go worse both ways, weak and strong in respect of oscillations. (d) As soon as available the extra inertia damper flywheel to be tried out again finding its optimum spring and damper setting. (4) Check non detonating also max. power ignition curve with Redline petrol. Also give actual governor characteristic. These tests to be carried out on test bed system. (5) Check mechanical efficiency, also compression pressures. (6) Take heat flow to the colling water. (7) Check an oil comsumption at 4,000 r.p.m. for 2 hrs. and repeat. Bentley V No.1 Unit. This unit later to be fitted in 14.B.V and incorporates the following special features. Long duration camshaft. 1.6 doa. inlet valves. | ||
