To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to De. c. to EY. c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X425Y HsS/LG24. 2. 22. GOSHAWK II. BRAKES. V425Y X4245 We find that when we use the aluminium brake straps, we should countersink the heads of the rivets into the brake lining. Our standard practice on the 40/50 HP. has been to have the rivets flush with the material so that heat would be conducted into the brake straps and to some extent balance the expansion of the drum. With the aluminium straps, we cannot allow the heat to get on to them. We have had brake straps drop to pieces on a brake which was adjusted badly and was rubbing all the time.
