R.R. CHASSIS UNIVERSAL TYPE BATTERIES.

X6137.

We visited the Chloride Electrical Storage Co. (makers of our Exide batteries) on the 20th inst. in order to inspect a sample 40/50 battery they have made up for us, and to inspect high rate tests etc. on the same. At the same time we discussed with them proposals of a similar nature for our 20/25 chassis battery.

40/50 Chassis.

The battery they had made up for us was similar to our present standard internally, but was fitted in a moulded container used extensively for other batteries throughout the world.

We have been successful in obtaining exactly the same life for this battery as our present standard so that in adopting this battery as standard we shall not compromise in either life or durability but should save considerably in cost and gain the advantage of interchangeability.

The tests we witnessed confirmed that the discharge performance is equal to what we are obtaining at present. The specification of the new battery will be as follows :-

Type 2/3-XRR11-1H.
Ebonite moulded container, without lid{A. J. Lidsey}, having 5 positive plates 5/32" thick, 4 negative plates 1/8" thick and 2 outside negatives 3/32" thick. Separation will be wood and ebonite. Deposit space 15/16". Weight per 6 volt unit charged, 50 lbs. Capacity 87 ampere hours at a 20 hour rate. Overall dimensions of each 6 volt unit 6.11/16" wide, 10 1/8" long and 9.15/16" high. Burnt on cell to cell connectors and standard S.M.M.T. taper terminals.

We propose to obtain the sample battery the Chloride Co. have made up and fit it to exptl. chassis 19-EX. if possible for the next 10,000 mile test.
