Relaying a telegram from Mr. Royce regarding Goshawk engine spring drives and valve design modifications.

X.4226 X.4222 I have received the following wire from Mr. Royce :- "BAILEY GOSHAWK ONLY PRODUCE SPRING DRIVES SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT DELAYS IN DELIVERY stop SENDING MODIFIED DESIGN IN FEW DAYS stop SEE HIVES REGARDING VALVE PROBABLY REQUIRE BEST QUALITY STAINLESS INCREASED METAL IN HEAD AND THIRTY OR FORTY FIVE DEGREE VALVE FACE stop LETTER FOLLOWS" Royce. The piece numbers of the parts affected are given below :- Spring Drive Section L.O.P. E.51055 Valve (Inlet and Exhaust) E.50157 Cylinder head machining. E.50913. It would appear from Mr. Royce's wire that he is anxious to bring these things in before delivery, but of course we shall do nothing with them until we receive standardisation sheets except that we would recommend that the Works go slow on all the parts referred to.
