Re The Changeover to G-3 Zinc Base Diaphragms on the S.U. Petrol Pump. In view of a subsequent discussion I have had with Mr. Skinner of the S.U. Company, we are still in agreement that the G-3 material should replace the sea-weed type diaphragms and authorisation for this has been given by the Works. Mr. Skinner has asked that we hold the matter over for a month, as at the moment they are having difficulty in obtaining a cloth of the required standard for treatment and they would not feel justified in supplying us with the present cloth owing to our exacting requirements and the trouble we are having. They hope to supply us with G-3 diaphragms made of the best quality cotton which has been treated in Germany in one month's time. For this reason the pumps in the meantime will be supplied with the sea-weed base diaphragms which will be treated to a higher temperature before fitting to minimise the shrinkage and consequent troubles. The moment the S.U. Company have G-3 diaphragms they are confident in, we will be notified and the pumps supplied with them. We are of the opinion that this is the only wise course to take as to go against their advice would leave all responsibility of any failure with the Company. It should be borne in mind that it is not a question of waiting till they have tried various cloths, but only a delay until they obtain the material they are confident in.
