re "SPECTRECodename for Phantom III"

MINOR FEATURES REFERRED TO IN EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}10/MH.{M. Huckerby}18.2.35 TO Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
-------------------------------------------------------

(1) Gears noisy compared with present Phantom II standard. Side shaft poor for noise. Synchro-mesh does not work smoothly and often gears 'crash'

(2) Pedals rattle in the floorboards, 45/50 m.p.h. engine period (? mounting).

(3) Engine gears "whine" period about 50 m.p.h. There is a bad knock when starting up from cold, which would appear to emanate from the coupling (clutch to gear box), as it disappears when the clutch is withdrawn, car standing.

(4) Clutch action fairly good, but "plunging" trouble aggravated when roughly used. The clutch does not stop when fully depressed (awkward for reversing).

(5) Brakes squeal on pull-up.

(6) The horn button is too hard to press.

(7) The exhaust "booms" - one noticeable period at 40 m.p.h.

(8) The fumes in the body are rather bad under full tank conditions.

(9) Petrol pumps noisy (probably due to leakage at the petrol pump unions).

(10) Bad squeak from front of car under excess up and down movement.

(11) Water temp reaches 80 with hard run; is this satisfactory for high air temperatures?

(12) Rear number plate. - Bad place for getting covered with mud.

(13) Engine oil leaks general.

(14) Accessibility poor - carburetters, dynamo, etc.
