Re: Chassis No. 21-UF. Riviera Trials.

I have received the following report from H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} regarding the plug of the petrol tank of the above car.

"Our experience, especially on the Continent, proves the necessity of removing the bottom plug from the petrol tank to let out the filth that gathers there. This we find should be done every two weeks.

It has been for some time, the practice of W. to drill this plug - four holes in the side of the plug. Probably the idea is to only loosen the plug and release the filth through these 4 holes. I do not know if this is so.

The result is that after a couple of turns of the plug, the petrol squirts all over the place in 4 directions, especially in the case of 21-UF as the thread is tight all the way. In the old type plug one could take the plug out to the last thread before the squirting began and the petrol could be caught in a pail in a clear running stream, washed out and replaced easily. While now, the squirting goes on all the time one is releasing the plug and all the time one is screwing up the plug."

Would you please let me know what is the purpose of these 4 holes in the plug as, at all events in this particular case, the action does not appear to be satisfactory.
