To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X4117 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}2/LG16.3.28 117-MC - GEOFFREY SUMMERS. +430- We give below a list of parts which we have fitted to the steering of this car. The main features are a 8.25" pendulum lever and side steering tube to suit with side steering tube springs to F.77944. In order to allow for the increased travel of the nut from full lock to full lock we had to fit a new nut and modify the cage. We also increased the friction on each ball end in the cross steering tube by 200 lbs. The scuttle of the car was jellying very badly and gave an unpleasant impression that the steering column was not rigid. We therefore incorporated a semi-isolation scheme. As we have obtained an appreciable amount of experimental information from carrying out this work on Mr. Summers' car we suggest that we are willing to bear half the cost experimentally. We think that Mr. Summers might be charged for incorporating the semi-isolation scheme as this was no fault of Messrs. Rolls-Royce. We suggest that we wait for his considered opinion on the steering before deciding what to charge him otherwise. List of parts fitted to Steering. F.78692 - Pendulum lever 'D' type. F.78693 - Side steering tube. F.78695 - Plug. F.78250/1/2- Shorter steering nut and cage. (Cage supplied by Mr. Summers) Side steering tube ends to N.sch.2258. F.77944 - Springs. -------------------------- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
