1245 To Bentley Motors Ltd. Derby............ Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Levallois Sr/VA4/ET.25.I.37 Re: BENTLEY REAR AXLES. "Perfect Oil Seals" ------------------ With further reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}I7/KW.7.10.36, on the 26.10.36, we fitted to chassis B.60.GA (Paris Trials Car) a set of the special oil seals which you sent us. This car had then covered 23.065 Kms. The oil seals were one of three sets you sent us as per your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}I6/KW.I.7.36. Since we fitted the seals to the above chassis, the car has covered a further mileage of 18,198 Kms. and, up to the time of writing there are no signs of oil leakage. Another set was fitted to chassis B.131.DK (Mr. Viturat). However, since the fitting of the oil seals, this car has only covered 6478 Kms. The car has now unfortunately been involved in an accident and is now in our workshops, so that a new frame can be fitted, etc. The remaining set has been fitted to chassis B.137.EJ (Mr. Cozzica). At the time we fitted the seals, the car had run 10.387 miles. This car has left for Egypt for the winter and we not expect to have to attend to it before the beginning of the summer. On the last two mentioned cars, we fitted a set of oil seals at the same time as fitting a set of strengthened type rear axle tubes. As soon as we are in a position, we will let you know how the oil seals behave on the last two mentioned cars. Sr/VA. | ||
