CUTOUTS. As previously agreed we accept full responsibility for defective cutouts we have supplied and we undertake to replace at our own expense the whole of these, not only in your stock and at Coach Builders, but where we are able to trace them on cars in service.

We are hoping to keep to our promise in regard to the delivery of the first batch of new cutouts.

X.515. New Fuse Holder. We do not agree entirely with this paragraph. You will recollect on referring to the Minutes of the first Conference which the Writer was asked to attend at your Works with regard to this subject, that we offered to replace the present fuse holders by the latest type in all switchboxes you had in stock.

The suggestion of carrying that out as far as all other switchboxes on cars, may extend it to such a cost that we should have to ask your consideration, because you have already admitted that the trouble is due to the type of fuse wire and not essentially to the fuse holder, and that the fuse wire was chosen by you.

In conclusion we take this opportunity of expressing our oft repeated anxiety to do all that is in our power in order to make the electrical equipment on your car in every way reliable and satisfactory, and we have instructed our Service Depots particularly to trace wherever possible cases of fault or failure and deal with them immediately.

On referring to a list of Rolls Royce cars our London Service Depot has attended, we were struck with the number of cases where the shunt wire of the cutout has broken. A failure which does not represent any inherent fault in design, but which of course puts the set out of action until it is rectified. We have been aware of this source of weakness and we fell that it will not occur again.

Of the few cars we have had to deal with since our set has been fitted we found more failures from that cause than any other.

Yours faithfully,
THE LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO. LTD.,
(sgd) C.L. Breeden,
Director.
