Dear Sirs,

Electrical Equipment 40-50 h.p. Chassis.

We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 20th inst., contents of which we have carefully noted. X.4352.
Dynamos. We are carrying out intensive tests on the E.575 machine 1" longer in order to get more definite data on the question of the shaft. The writer erroneously informed Mr. Hives during his visit yesterday afternoon that we had actually increased the diameter. This, however, he wishes to correct because when the matter of increasing the diameter of the shaft was considered, it was realised that it would upset completely the utilization of existing parts and would necessitate what would practically amount to a new machine throughout.

We duly note that Mr. Royce has decided you should continue to fit the standard E.575 dynamo until your stock is reduced to a point when a definite decision must be taken, thus definitely cancelling the suggestion of conversion of existing Dynamos E.575 to one inch longer.

The question therefore does not arise with regard to price, excepting that as far as we are concerned we should be prepared to supply you with the machine one inch longer for £17.0.0. each nett. but as already pointed out to you it will cost us considerable more than £5. to carry out the conversion, and taking into consideration the facts of the whole case which are known to you, we should consider it an injustice for that price to be impacted upon us.

We agreed with Mr. Royce that when the new cutouts are being supplied a lot of the trouble alleged to come from the inadequacy of the dynamo will cease, making the E.575 dynamo suitable for the greater part of your requirements.

We are prepared to construct a certain number of the one inch larger dynamos entirely on our own responsibility.

Contd.
