SIDE LEVER POSITIONS.

We send herewith N.scheme 3391. shewing the side lever positions for use with the synchro mesh gearbox on P.2.

In order to obtain the necessary leverage to operate the synchronising mechanism we have had to use a longer gear lever on all steerings. We have used the same lever as on the 25 HP., and J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3.

As a result of this we have had to use the present long brake lever on all Steerings.

Due to this lengthening of the gear lever it has been necessary to move the knob out as much as possible in order that it may pass by the driver's leg instead of being partly under it as now.

By leaning the brake lever knob at 10° inwards at the top, and keeping the same knuckle clearance between the hand and the screen pillar we have been able to move the gear lever out about an inch.

The existing levers are shewn in green. There is only one length of gear lever and brake lever, and 'D', 'E', and 'F' types have the same angular setting. 'G' type is different. Therefore there is no special lever for 'F' type as at present.

The suitability of these proposed levers has been investigated by examining finished cars at Sales and coach-builders.
