To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. filing x2066 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/MJ.5.9.29. OIL FOR HYPOID GEARS. As a result of the failure of three pairs of hypoid axle gears, due to useing oils other than Whitmore's Compound, it has been decided that no other oil shall be tested until we have received assurance from Gleason's that it is a satisfactory oil for the job. After analysing a sample of Whitmore's oil, Hl. states that he has produced an oil having Castor oil as a base, which gives better results than Whitmore's on the friction test, and which appears to be well worth a trial. We should be glad therefore if you would get into touch with Gleason's and ask them if they would be willing to carry out tests to confirm that this oil is satisfactory. If you will let us know how much oil they require for the tests, Hl. will make it up and it shall be despatched to Gleason's. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. | ||
