In accordance with the request received from Lp{Mr Lappin}, I give below a report on the work carried out to chassis No.4BLV immediately prior to the accident:-

REPORT ON BRAKES.

Car was delivered to K by a Driver from LH{Mr Haworth} on Saturday, the 8th inst.

Brakes were dismantled and I give below the Shop report on their condition:-

(1) O/S front brake had been binding and the liners were in a very charred condition. The O/S front pivoted shoe was badly blued and the O/S front main liner had started to disintegrate around the two top rivets on the leading edge. The O/S front brake mechanism was squeaking and binding.

(2) The N/S rear brake liner bottom shoe had just started to pick up oil from a leakage from the back axle casing. The hand and footbrake shoes were seized on the anchor pins. All liners were approximately 70% worn.

In view of the fact that the car was to be used for demonstration purposes. I decided to reline the footbrake throughout. We therefore relined the footbrake, eased all footbrake mechanisms, noting that all the brake drums were somewhat scored.

On final test, the following adjustments were carried out with a view to this car being used for demonstration purposes:-

(a) Rectified excessive slackness in the N/S front axle control link.

(b) Rectified knock in side steering tube, rear end.
