RE. GOSHAWK 11 BROKEN FRONT SPRING X.4261

We today sent you a wire as per attached confirmation.

Thinning the top leaf will facilitate the construction of the spring throughout. We have suggested 2 thicknesses because it would be desirable to make the top leaf as thin as it will stand up to the point when all the leaves are of the same thickness with constant curvature. This will result in the lightest and strongest spring but it may of course be found that the tension prevents the leaf being thin below a certain amount. While Mr. Royce has never authorised us to instruct a thinner top leaf he has often hinted that it might be a desirable experiment. It will of course be necessary to instruct special springs as it is not possible to change the thickness of the top leaf on an existing spring.
