X.4222. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E2/M6.1.23. GOSHAWK 11. SPRING DRIVE X.4222. We send herewith drawing No.LeC.1666 shewing driving and damping springs for the revised Goshawk 11. Spring Drive. We think that the weaker driving spring shewn reproduces the effect of the present standard spring drive, and this one should be tried. The stronger driving spring should be dis-regarded unless it is found necessary to use stronger springs. The damper spring shewn requires recesses adding to a depth of .1 in the fixed portion of the damper hub to accommodate the necessary length of spring for the rating required.
