Battery Box. LOP. DR.212.

This box was coated with a special paint called "Rubtex", in place of the usual sprayed lead. This paint was found to have chipped off both inside and outside, exposing patches of the metal. The use of this paint, therefore, cannot be recommended.

H.T. Wires and Harness.

These wires were tested and found to be electrically sound. The Ross-Courtney terminal is missing from No.1 wire. The black-braided H.T. wire from coil to distributor is badly frayed, and the rubber swollen and bulging through the braid in places.
The L.T. wire from coil to distributor is frayed in places, also, one Ross-Courtney terminal is broken and the other missing.

Distributor (Delco-Remy) LOP. DR.291.

After 5839 miles' running the driving pinion locking pin was sheared, and one of the governor weights was broken. A second distributor completed a further 950 miles when another pin was sheared. This was repaired, but after a further 1700 miles the pin again sheared.

Distributor R.R. CP.426.

The insulated pivot bush of the contact lever was found to be loose; the lever spring has a groove worn at its free end where it bears on the stud. There is evidence of the rotor blade fouling 3 H.T. points in the head. The method of fixing the head is now being altered.
At the end of 5,600 miles the locking pin for the governor spring spindle came adrift. A new pin was fitted.
When dismantled at Derby the governor frame was found to be cracked across the boss which houses the governor spindle. The outside weight arms are loose on the governor spindle due to elongation of the holes. This fault may have been caused when the spindle came adrift. A new governor is being made which has two springs and a strengthened frame. Total mileage 11,685. (A spring drive has now been issued for both types of distributors).
