Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} O.{Mr Oldham} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}4/N.21.2.39. DEPOT COMPLAINTS. This is to confirm the verbal complaints recently gone into. WRAITH. Ignition Troubles. These are being investigated. Horn Trouble. This was due to a broken earth connection. PHANTOM III. Upon the second decarb. heavy expenses are being met with by the trouble of the hydraulic valve rockers sticking, causing the valves to remain open. This is caused by the new position having to be taken up of the bushes in the rocker arms due to the height of the valves being altered by: (a) Grinding in. (b) New jointing washer between cylinders and head. The wear in the bushes is such that they cause eccentricity which causes sticking of the rocker cam. As you are aware we spent a lot of time trying out solid bushes but failed to obtain good results. A remedy is needed quickly. £20 was spent on this job in a month by Br's statement.
