S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), LTD., Cricklewood Works, LONDON, N.W.2. Continuation No. 1.

Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,

We propose, if possible, to regulate the Thermostat to give a cut-off at 26½ to 28½ degrees Centigrade.

May we assume that the maximum temperature of the oil would not exceed 100 degrees Centigrade? The point at issue is that owing to the low boiling point of the fluid in the Thermostat, a very high pressure is attained at 100 degrees. We are of the opinion that the bellows is quite capable of withstanding the internal pressure at 100 degrees without distortion, and we do not expect that the oil temperature will exceed 75 degrees centigrade.

The undersigned will be in Derby on Monday next and will call upon you if this is convenient.

Yours faithfully,

p.p. S. Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd.,

[Signature: F.{Mr Friese} B. Stafford]

Midland Engineer.
