Oy6-E-121524 -2- December 15, 1924. 1. Improvements proposed in the report. (cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) (b) A further suggestion is for shutters of increased area in the bonnet sides. We have not found that these sliding shutters are ever used. They are generally stuck with paint and it is not possible to open them without leaving marks on the paint. We do not believe the average owner will tolerate their appearance when open. 2. Our Suggested improvements would be - (a) To eliminate or modify the ventilated undersheets in such a way as to leave wide open spaces either side of the engine and protect it from mud by diagonal splash guards close behind each front wheel. This suggestion was made some time ago and may be seen on the Packard or Hupmobile. (b) To increase the fan speed either by using a larger pulley at the bottom with constant spring tension on the belt, or by a mechanical drive and slipping clutch, eliminating the belt. (c) To carry a sheet aluminum shroud from the back of the radiator around the fan. This might improve the passage of air slightly. It would also make the fan safer when the bonnet is open and engine running. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} MO/E | ||
