Y4264 With reference to the question of preventing the oil leaking from the bottom of the steering column, Mr. Royce is willing to try some experiments, and we send herewith N.sch. 1294 showing a suggestion for increasing the oil tightness. We do not know what strength of spring is used now, but judging by the drawing, it seems possible to increase it without overstressing the spring or interfering with the worm nut. A washer of some material which will resist oil, and at the same time allow a certain amount of friction, should be used. We have suggested leather or dermatite, or there may be some other material.
