Phantom III Steering.

Referring to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}18/T.10.8.36, we have gone over the reasons for asking for steering stops adjustable in character, on the Phantom III steering, and agree that stops which can be filed for adjustment seem desirable. We propose to provide them by forging projections on the steel pillars which form the rear support for the sheet metal bracket carrying the radiator. These pillars are at present the stops, and the additional projections are easy to provide. The projection should be practically filed away when the best lock on either side has been obtained.

As regards the rocker shaft coming against the stop in the box on one lock, as is said to happen now, the steering column is no doubt set in the centre, and the length of the side steering to be made to correspond. It seems important to get this right.

We should be glad to know whether an easy adjustment for length, such as is provided on most other cars, would be considered a saving, either on the side or cross steering tubes, or both.
