We find that there is considerable irregularity in the thickness of the facings on some of the 10" Borg & Beck driven plates. In certain cases this causes an irregularity in the thickness of the compressed disc of as much as .015". We have taken the matter up with Borg & Beck, and they are taking immediate steps to keep the thickness of their facings consistent to .002". We find that the moulded facings on the 11" clutch are very much better in this respect. In the meanwhile, although we do not know how irregular a plate could be and still be free from jaggers, we think it unwise to fit a plate of which the compressed thickness varies by more than .005".
