Dear Major Carington,

Referring to the conversation we had the other day, we have decided that we are not yet in a position to standardise any plug on the Bentley car. The position appears to be that while your plug suffers from burning of the points, the Lodge plug is also not free from trouble, and we think we shall have to go to an aero type construction to enable lead to be used. We are therefore running your aero plug 773S on our next 10,000 miles test.

It may be that you will not consider this aero plug suitable for a car, and it is for this reason we are letting you know what we are doing. If you think that you could with advantage modify this plug to bring it nearer the preignition point for road conditions, we should like to have your recommendations as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,
