The whole of the Quarterly Complaint items were reviewed.

In the first instance attention was drawn to the fact that for the quarter ending 30th June the number of complaints under the various items had in almost every instance very considerably increased.
Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} however, was able to show that this was seasonal and that when compared with the same period for last year the complaints were rather less, the explanation being that more cars are on the road in that quarter than in the Winter quarter.

Each item was then gone through with the view to seeing whether a cure can be found or some means of reducing the cost of free of charge work.

1. Brakes Squeaking.
There is no known cure for this except by persistent attention by the driver, as it is found that if the driver will put on two or three drops of paraffin at regular intervals the brakes do not squeak.
It was decided that we should endeavour, by means of our Inspectors and Depots, to convey this advice to drivers, warning them particularly that they should not overdo it, otherwise they will run up against other troubles.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has also some new material for brake linings which he thinks will help to cure this.

2. Boiling Complaints.
This matter is, of course receiving the urgent attention of the Technical Officials but so far we cannot trace anyone having any trouble who has had the new matrix supplied.
It is also found that it is only a small proportion of cars that suffer from it badly, and it was agreed that in respect of any new car - that is, one that had not done 5,000 miles - we should immediately change the radiator for one with the new matrix and not wait for further experiments.
