1691. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}19/JH. 27th April, 1938. The Rover Co.Ltd., COVENTRY. For the attention of S.B. Wilks Esq., Dear Sirs, Mr. Robotham has handed me your letter of 26th inst. and I am arranging to send you the Road Wheel Retaining nut of a Bentley car. This nut is subjected to a certain amount of abrasive or cutting action by mud or dry particles of road matter, but we find the plating stands up very weel in service. The nickel deposit first applied is about .0025 thick and this is tested before the chromium is applied by 10 minutes contact at room temperature with a filter paper soaked in a 5% solution of Hydrochloric acid and 0.2% Potassium Ferricyanide, after which it should not show any blue spots. The chromium deposit is of hardly measureable thickness. Our invoice for this part, which I understand will be 15/- less 15% will follow, and I trust this will be to your satisfaction. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
