25% STIFFER FRONT SPRINGS. X. 9410

I suggested the 25% increase in the stiffness of the front springs as the most reasonable compromise. If this is reasonable I am anxious to get along with the work.

It will be remembered that we have been sending out more flexible front springs than anybody, and it was proposed that we increased them for foreign orders, and we have been troubled with broken front springs. Now we are fitting front brakes.

Unless we can considerably lengthen the front springs it seems we shall have to do something towards strengthening independently of front brakes. We must not attempt too much at the moment and break more fresh ground so we should carefully test to find if the advantages are real and if Sales - including PN.{Mr Northey} - pass this moderate modification, be satisfied to get something done on these lines.

It will be remembered that the reduction in the bump from 3" to 2 1/4" is not really so as (by memory) we are putting on 1 1/2" rubber buffers instead of 3/4". We ought to get less frequent bumping on the rubber buffers which should make up for something.

We have already lengthened the front springs as much as is practical.

We are still much less stiff than the Hispano and others.
