B.III half-shaft failures on the Bentley, proposing an increase in spline diameter and a new wheel driver design.

B.III HALF SHAFTS.

In view of the increasing number of half-shaft failures on the present Bentley, we consider it essential to increase the diameter of the root of the splines on B.III.

This necessitates new differential boxes and bearings. If we put up the diameter 1/8", there is no doubt that the bore of the Schatz bearing can be increased this amount. As to the other bearing, we shall have to find out the cheapest way of getting one to fit the new dimensions.

We still think the design of wheel driver shown in the lower view of N. Sch.5192 should be incorporated on the present Bentley as soon as sufficient testing has been completed.

On the present Bentley there have now been:-

6 failures of half shafts (5 on 3 1/2-litres)

14 " " wheel drivers (10 on 3 1/2-litres).
