X4094. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/KT. October 10th, 1932. The Adamant Eng. Co Ltd, Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Comndr. F.G.Matravers. Dear Sirs, We have just stripped the Cadillac worm and segment steering and examined the pieces. We note that they make ample provision for taking up wear. Their area of contact appears to be considerably larger than you own, and in view of this, we are somewhat concerned as to how you expect to eliminate wear. It occurs to us that if the steering is to be irreversible by reason of the removal of the oil film under heavy loads, then wear is bound to take place. This evidently is the view taken by the Cadillac Co. It may be that on the Marles Weller you have means for wear compensation with which we are not familiar, but should like to have your views on the matter. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
