328. To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}12/AP.17.12.36. P.3. GEARBOXES There are some more modifications we should like to test on the dynamometer. They are - (1) The strengthened side shaft rear end N.Sch.4969. Could you please prepare this for 4.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from the scheme drawing as the alterations are very small. (2) RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}'s gears with soft splines. New shaft will be required. Accurate measurements of the slack should be taken before and after the test. Box 8.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} can be used for this test. All the old bearings should be refitted except G.56227 at the rear of the 3rd. motion shaft which should be a new bearing. Neither the 3rd. and 4th or 2nd. speed sliding pieces should be altered. We do not wish to test a concertina with soft bore yet. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
