P.3. GEARBOXES

There are some more modifications we should like to test on the dynamometer. They are -

(1) The strengthened side shaft rear end N.Sch.4969. Could you please prepare this for 4.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from the scheme drawing as the alterations are very small.

(2) RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}'s gears with soft splines. New shaft will be required. Accurate measurements of the slack should be taken before and after the test. Box 8.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} can be used for this test. All the old bearings should be refitted except G.56227 at the rear of the 3rd. motion shaft which should be a new bearing. Neither the 3rd. and 4th or 2nd. speed sliding pieces should be altered. We do not wish to test a concertina with soft bore yet.
