1629 To Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames} c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/MHR.{M. H. Rigby}3.JH.30.5.41. SEIZURE OF HANDBRAKE SHAFTS. Log book reports indicate that two handbrakes have seized this winter. 8.B.V. Chassis. The operating shaft was rusty and had nearly seized. This had to be cleaned and refitted on 30.1.41. The car had covered 17,500 miles in the 21 months since the 50,000 miles overhaul. 9 B.V. Chassis. The operating shaft was again seized in the bush, and was eased as above. This occurred at 28,780 miles after 26 months running. A solution to this trouble would be provided by taking the centralised chassis lubrication supply through a 2.5 1 or 2 metering valve to a point on the bearing bracket GB.4982 between the two "oillite" bushes. There are 32 of these brackets at Slack Lane, so this part should not be altered. The scheme will not be finalised before obtaining further evidence of the same trouble.
