| DT/RR. c. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 14/G.17.11.37. 623 File WYMAN WRAITH 111 - CLAMPED JOINTS FOR EXHAUST SYSTEM. Please receive herewith :- E.CD.218 Modified Front Intermediate Pipe. Wraith 111. E.CD.236 Modified Rear Intermediate Pipe. Wraith 111. These designs have been made to the request of Experimental Department for a revised type of clamped joint to replace LeC.5376 for use in conjunction with the exhaust pipes made in thinner gauge material. The length of pipe overlap for each joint has been increased by .250" to decrease possibility of blow-by through splits in pipes. Care should be taken when assembling these pipes that the clamps are in the correct relationship to the splits as shown on designs. Please note the enlarged hole in plate of frame cross to give increased clearance when using the rubber suspension to E.CD.200, the altered shape of hole is shown on E.CD.236. The intermediate pipes are increased in diameter to 2.125 outside, and the material thickness is 17 SWG. (.056) leaving .012 clearance on the diameter for the clamped joint between inner and outer pipes. Will you please detail and instruct the necessary parts for the experiment.
